If you happen to keep a list of my daily activities at your side at all times, you’ll note that the above headline was written yesterday. That’s as far as I got. I did clean the kitchen, but it took the entire day. The entire day. It’s not that it was that messy (I mean, it was, but no room can be that messy), it was just all I had in me.

Sometimes rest is not an option; it's a necessity.

Sometimes rest is not an option; it’s a necessity.

The past week has been rough. There has been death, unexpected travel, work stress, party planning stress and all the stress the comes with being stressed about these things. Somehow, we had a book release party on Thursday, and it was wonderful. It was fun, it was heartwarming, and it was life-affirming. And when it was done, my husband and I crashed hard.

I would have loved to have filled yesterday with immediate thank yous and press releases and social media blitzes about the book party and the book, but there was no room for anything but recovery. And cleaning a kitchen. We may have gotten a full, long night of sleep, but emotional exhaustion can only be overcome by time and mental quiet. So we took an emotional day off. There can be more work on the book stuff Monday. My inbox will still be there tomorrow. And I already feel better for it. Though, being Saturday, sweeping the patio might be my biggest task today. I think I’m OK with that too.
